Learn about the Sabbatical year in an interfaith setting with Rabbi Katy Allen of Ma’yan Tikvah in Wayland and Rev. Debbie Clark of Edwards Church in Framingham.

We will explore the Biblical texts about the Sabbatical year (Shmita) and the commandments to let the land lie fallow, together with selected Jewish post-biblical commentaries and Christian Scriptures. We will then examine selected modern spiritual resources and practical ideas, showing how the Jewish environmental community is using the Sabbatical year as a foundation for exploring a value-laden approach to sustainability. As we share a potluck vegetarian dinner, we will discuss who the ideas learned about Shmita can provide a spiritual foundation for communal action to preserve and protect the Earth, including specific actions the group wants to take. Please bring a vegan or vegetarian dish to share.
