Parent Cafe: The ABCs of LGBTQ

When our kids, friends, congregants, students, and community members come out, the world they enter can be foreign and unknown to us. Asking our loved ones to be our guides may feel invasive, awkward, or intimidating. What does it mean to be a fairy or a bear? Why do some people use the word “queer“? Isn’t that offensive? Who can use the word? Can you be both transgender and gay? What’s the etiquette for talking about a trans person before their transition?

Join the Keshet Parent & Family Connection and Keshet’s Boston Regional Director Joanna Ware for a crash course in LGBTQ culture, language, norms, etiquette, and history – and bring all the questions you aren’t sure how to ask your own kids!

If you are a parent, grandparent, sibling, rabbi, teacher, or a friend – this event is for you!

Light refreshments will be served and Kosher food will be available.

Join us for this thought provoking evening and mark your calendars for our next Parent Café on October 21st!

The Parent Café series offers a place where Jewish parents with LGBTQ children can hear a perspective on parenting LGBTQ children and connect with other parents around shared experiences and concerns. The warm and supportive environment of each Parent Café offers exploration and discussion on topics of interest to parents of LGBT children.

Do you have questions or want to get involved? Contact our Boston Community Organizer, Kat Macías (kathryn@keshetonline.org).
