From Broken Pieces to a New Life: Connecting the Past and Present to Build the Future.

The Vilna Shul, Boston’s Center for Jewish Culture, is the last remaining immigrant-era synagogue building in Boston and is a historic landmark building. It is the only active Jewish historic site in downtown Boston. Inside our community room, the once colorful folk art mural has deteriorated to a point where it cannot be restored. However, we can bring this mural back to life by recreating it – by making a mosaic that is designed to represent the original image. To build this mosaic together as a community project, connecting all people, will be truly reenacting the spirit of the mural itself – bringing back the memories of a community and re-envisioning the new 21st century community at Beacon Hill.
Please join us to be part of history, part of today’s community, and to create something that will be part of the Vilna into the next 100 years! We will work over three Sundays in November – choose a date and time that works for you. Tours and snacks will be provided. The Vilna is T accessible and $5 validated parking is available at the Charles River Plaza garage at 175 Cambridge Street next to Au Bon Pain. Children 5+ are welcome to participate.
We are working with talented local mosaic artist, Bette Ann Libby, and look forward to seeing you there! No artistic ability necessary – Bette Ann and our volunteers will help guide you!
