This spring we’re celebrating ourselves, celebrating our honoree, and celebrating TBZ, and we hope you’ll join us!

Join artist-in-residence Yoni Avi Battat and an ensemble of local musicians for a contemplative and energetic performance of original and traditional Middle Eastern music. Celebrating the success of TBZ’s newest Mizrahi Kabbalat Shabbat initiative, this program will weave songs from Shabbat Zimrah together with music from Yoni’s album “Fragments,” as well as gems from the repertoire of Arab folk music and traditional Mizrahi piyyutim.

We are excited to honor Judith Kates at the 2024 Spring Concert. Along with her husband, Bill, Judith has been a TBZ member since 2019. They joined TBZ to be part of the same community as their family—Tom, Kathy and Eva; the three generations of the Kates family quickly became active participants in our community. She is the savta (grandmother) of Eva, but known to many TBZ children and families as “savta” as well. Judith is a brilliant scholar of Torah and literature, masterful teacher who manages the classroom and supports each student with an understated authority, feminist, pathbreaking anthologist, trailblazing thinker, lifelong learner, deep listener, cherished accompanier, mentor and friend to so many with her wisdom and quiet, gentle strength. A devoted participant and leader in Boker Tov and Eat, Pray and Learn, our community is enriched by her leyning, teaching and participation on Shabbat mornings. What a blessing to be in community with Judith and Bill. And what a joy to be able to celebrate Judith this spring. Join us in honoring her!
